PERMITTING

Things you need to know:

Houdini Pop-Up homes come to you 90% assembled and therefore they are considered “Kits” to be completed by the buyer. It is not considered a finished product.   Therefore, you will receive a Bill-of-Sale; and not a Title or VIN number (vehicle identification number).  This is important to remember when applying for permitting or registration.

Houdini Homes are an imported product and conform to ISO (International Standards)and not American standards.  They also conform to the country of origin’s quality control requirements.  Certificate of manufacturing standards are attached with every Bill-Of-Sale.  Because Houdini Homes are not manufactured in America, they are not subject to HUD (Housing and Urban Development), ANSI (American National Standards Institute) or RVIA (RV Industry Association) certified standards. Most mobile home park installations and some RV parks require some of these standards to be met.  Please consult with your local municipalities before making your purchase.

Each government municipality controls and directs the building standards, sizes and applications of residential and commercial building projects.  Houdini Pop-Ups may or may not be legal in your area.  Consult your local building department to make sure you are able to erect it in your area.

Because each Houdini Home is custom built, specific changes to meet codes may be possible. These requirements but must be submitted in detail in written plansat time of purchase and may incur additional costs.  Once an order is placed, it may not be cancelled or refunded.  Changes after the order is placed will bequoted upfront and must be paid in advance before work will continue with order.

Houdini Pop-Ups include all plumbing fixtures and electrical wiring and lighting in place with an electrical disconnect. Some installation of these components will be required.  It is the sole responsibility of the buyer for final electrical, water source and sewer source.  It recommended that you use a licensed professional so as to not damage the supplied systems that come with the home.

Although the Houdini Drive is a home on wheels, the transportation trailer is designed to move the home for setup for longer periods of time.  It takes a few days on average to setup of the Pop-Up properly, so it is not intended to be moved as often as a convectiona lRV.  It is termed a“Park Model” and can be reference as such when discussing placement with an RV Park.

RV parks are an excellent place to set up your Houdini Drive. It is the responsibility of the buyer to install RV approved holding tanks, water hookup and electrical hookup.  Not all RV parks will accept a tiny home on wheels if it is not RVIA approved.  Please consult with the park you plan on setting your home up at and make sure they are OK with the product and the open footprint size prior to leaving your home base.

Because the Houndini Pop-Up is considered a kit, you are termed “builder” of such and may be afforded certain courtesies from the DMV to register your tiny home on wheels.  It is advisable to call your DMV ahead of time to know all the specifics on how to register your home.

If you plan on launching the Houdini Aqua Villa in your area, make sure your local municipality or DMV is ok with registering it as a “houseboat, “boathouse,” “dock,” or “non-powered boat.”   Because there are very few regulations defining this product, you will need to solicit their help in figuring out how to make this legal and pay the appropriate annual registration fees.   The Houdini Aqua Villa not intended to be used as a boat because it doesn’t have a hull.  It is advisable to have it towed into final position.

Insurance:  Consult your current insurance company to find the best policy to insurance your purchase.  That could be a homeowner’s policy, a trailer policy, or a boating policy.  Most good insurance agents will have alternative carriers for their more un-defined policies.
